Special Inspection and Joint Crackdown on the Capture and Distribution of 'Eorin Ojingeo'
The closed season for fresh squid is from April 1 to May 31
Coastal combined fishing and nearshore trap fishing are restricted from April 1 to April 30
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangneung City will conduct intensive guidance, inspection, and joint crackdowns with related organizations for two months starting in April to eradicate the capture and distribution of juvenile squid, commonly called 'chongal (bullet)', 'hanip (one bite)', and 'mini ojingeo (mini squid)'.
According to the city on the 31st, the special crackdown will target violations such as capturing squid during the closed season and prohibited size limits, especially bycatch exceeding limits, as well as distribution, sale, and possession activities occurring both at sea and on land.
The crackdown, carried out by the city along with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries East Sea Fisheries Management Team, Gangwon Province, the Fisheries Cooperative, and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, will involve the deployment of the fishery guidance vessel 'Mugunghwa-ho' and numerous fishery supervisory officials.

According to the revision of the Fisheries Resources Management Act in January this year, the closed season for squid is from April 1 to May 31 (however, for coastal combined fishing and offshore jigging fixed nets, it is from April 1 to April 30). The prohibited size is an outer mantle length of 15 cm or less, and violations are punishable by a fine of up to 20 million KRW or imprisonment for up to 2 years.
