Announcement of the 2022 Busan City High School Admission Plan
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The high school admission plan for Busan City for the next year has been announced.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seok-jun) announced on the 31st the "2022 Busan City High School Admission Basic Plan," which includes the main contents of the 2022 high school admission process and career and academic information by school type.
The 2022 high school admission process is divided into early schools (science high schools, arts high schools, physical education high schools, Meister high schools, specialized high schools, etc.) and late schools (foreign language high schools, international high schools, autonomous private high schools, principal selection general high schools, and standardized general high schools).
Among these, special-purpose high schools such as science high schools, foreign language high schools, and international high schools, as well as autonomous private high schools, will select new students mainly through a self-directed learning admission process to eliminate excessive private education inducement factors and normalize public education.
The self-directed learning admission process refers to an admission process that selects creative and potential students based on the results of students' self-directed learning and character.
These schools will select at least 20% of their quota through the social integration admission process to ensure equal educational opportunities according to the 2022 social integration admission guidelines.
Children of national veterans who are eligible for educational support can also apply through an additional quota admission process.
Specialized high schools and industry-demand customized high schools (Meister high schools) will conduct special and general admission processes considering students' talents, aptitudes, and employment intentions ahead of the general admission process to expand vocational education opportunities.
Standardized general high schools will conduct admissions through a computer-based random lottery assignment method, which includes multiple applications from 1st to 4th preferences for metropolitan and regional school districts and geographic information assignment within the commuting area based on address information.
The main change in this high school admission process is the prohibition of duplicate applications to gifted schools. There are eight gifted schools nationwide, including the Korea Science Academy of Busan.
However, an exception to the prohibition of dual applications is made for applicants to Hanmin High School (located in Paju, Gyeonggi-do), a dormitory-type high school for children of military personnel, allowing them to apply for Busan City high school admissions even if they fail to be admitted there.
Also, considering the COVID-19 situation, the volunteer activity hour requirement for the 2022 high school admission process has been relaxed from the previous 20 hours to 5 hours. This adjustment is the same as last year.
