UN Security Council Discusses North Korea Missile Launch... No Statement or Response Issued
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held a meeting on the 30th (local time) to discuss North Korea's missile launches, but no concrete measures were taken.
According to AFP, the meeting was held behind closed doors for 30 minutes. The council members expressed concern over North Korea's short-range ballistic missile launch on the 25th but did not adopt a statement or take any follow-up actions.
One day earlier, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the new U.S. Ambassador to the UN, said in an interview with foreign correspondents in New York alongside Secretary of State Tony Blinken, "We are preparing a response at the UN level to North Korea's violation of Security Council resolutions."
A diplomat reported the atmosphere of the meeting, saying, "The majority of attendees expressed concern and reiterated the need to achieve denuclearization goals and the importance of diplomacy and dialogue."
The Norwegian delegation, a non-permanent member of the council, urged on Twitter after the meeting that North Korea should take steps toward denuclearization goals and engage in meaningful dialogue with the international community.

The meeting was convened at the request of five European council members: the United Kingdom, France, Norway, Estonia, and Ireland. A diplomatic source explained, "Although the meeting initially did not include North Korea's short-range missile launch as an agenda item, European council members insisted, and it was decided to discuss North Korea's missile launches as well."
