The city announced on the 30th that it will sign a business agreement with these medical institutions to designate them as dedicated medical institutions for child abuse.
According to the agreement, each hospital will be responsible as a dedicated medical institution for the physical and mental treatment and health checkups of abused children, and when a child suspected of being abused is discovered during medical procedures, they will report to related organizations to ensure prompt action.
Currently, among metropolitan cities that have designated and operate dedicated medical institutions, only Daejeon and Busan have such institutions.
According to the Child Welfare Act and its Enforcement Decree, the Minister of Health and Welfare or local government heads can designate dedicated medical institutions for the treatment of abused children, but due to the lack of legal enforceability, few places actually designate and operate such institutions, the city explained.
