Japan: "Correction of the East Sea notation by the US clearly reflects Japan's position"
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunbyeol Kim] The Japanese government stated that the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command's recent correction of the missile launch direction from North Korea from "East Sea" to another term in its statement reflects "Japan's position clearly."
On the 29th, Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato responded to related questions at a regular press conference, saying, "We requested a correction (to the U.S. side regarding the East Sea notation)."
The Indo-Pacific Command, in a statement issued after North Korea's missile launch on the 25th, said, "We are aware of the North Korean missile launched toward the East Sea," using the term East Sea for the relevant waters. However, Japan demanded a correction from the U.S. that same afternoon, stating that "the Sea of Japan" is the only internationally established name, reflecting Japan's position.

In response, the Indo-Pacific Command issued a correction regarding the East Sea notation, stating, "It should have been noted as either 'Sea of Japan' or 'the sea east of the Korean Peninsula,'" and added, "The U.S. position of recognizing the Sea of Japan as the only approved term remains unchanged."
