Promotion of Projects to Improve Living Conditions in Vulnerable Areas
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 29th that it will promote the revitalization project of the original downtown area starting this year by investing a total project cost of 44.7 billion KRW secured through selection in a public contest, based on the urban regeneration strategic plan (draft) prepared last year to restore the original downtown as the center of culture, history, and economy.
The county plans to integrate the original downtown revitalization project with marine healing and marine bio-industry, and promote it in connection with Wando’s unique marine, historical culture, and tourism resources.
The original downtown revitalization projects include the Wando-eup Jungang Village (Jungang, Judo, Seoseong, Yongam-ri) Urban Regeneration New Deal Project (13.4 billion KRW), the former Wando Cultural Center Urban Regeneration Recognition Project (4 billion KRW), Noduri area demand-tailored project (2.5 billion KRW), Hangdong-ri vulnerable area living condition improvement project (4.3 billion KRW), regional revitalization projects (15 billion KRW) such as expansion of Dadohae Sunrise Park, multipurpose parking lot, and creation of Garipo Sunset Road, Seongnae and Namseong Village vulnerable area condition remodeling project (4.3 billion KRW), and small-scale regeneration projects (1.1 billion KRW), totaling 12 projects.
The projects aim to promote urban regeneration activation, establish a safe and beautiful residential environment, revitalize resident communities growing together, and restore the central functions of the original downtown linked with tourism resources.
Wando-gun has formed a dedicated urban regeneration team for the revitalization of the original downtown and has been operating the Wando-gun Urban Regeneration Support Center since June last year. In addition, a public-private-expert integrated system has been established, involving resident councils, dedicated urban regeneration organizations, the urban regeneration support center, and related experts.
Starting next year, according to the priority of the revitalization areas, Geumil and Nohwa-eup will promote general neighborhood-type projects, Gunoe-myeon and Noduri will implement “Save Our Neighborhood” projects, and Hangdong-ri will carry out residential support-type projects.
