"Calling Security Council Meeting is Double Standard"… North Korea Takes Offensive Against International Community (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] North Korea recently expressed opposition to the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) decision to convene over its missile test launches, calling it a "double standard," and issued a warning message that it may take countermeasures. Experts analyze that North Korea is aggressively pushing forward by raising issues of "fairness."
On the 29th, the Korean Central News Agency released a statement in the name of Jo Chol-su, Director of the International Organizations Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, saying, "The UNSC questioning our country's normal activities, which fall under the right to self-defense, is a disregard for a sovereign state and a clear double standard." North Korea had previously stated on the 25th that ballistic missile launches fall under the sovereign right to self-defense.
The statement emphasized, "Many countries around the world launch various types of projectiles for the purpose of strengthening their military power," and added, "It is absurd that only our fair and legitimate self-defensive measures are being questioned."
It went on to criticize the Security Council by mentioning the joint US-ROK exercises, saying, "When the United States forcibly conducts war exercises opposing our Republic right in front of us, it remains silent, but it arbitrarily picks on the self-defensive countermeasures we take to ensure national security."
Regarding the Security Council member states, the UK and France, it pointed out, "It was only a few days ago that the UK officially announced its intention to significantly increase its nuclear warheads, abandoning its nuclear disarmament obligations, and France's recent test launch of a new generation multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) intercontinental ballistic missile is also not long ago."
The statement warned, "For the Security Council to fulfill its original mission of contributing to world peace and security, it must thoroughly uphold the principles of fairness, objectivity, and equity," and added, "We will never overlook the fact that some Security Council member states are abusing the UN to realize impure objectives that infringe on the sovereignty of independent countries and hinder their development."
It further stated, "If the UN Security Council continues to cling to double standards, it will provoke escalation rather than easing of tensions on the Korean Peninsula, and confrontation rather than dialogue," and warned, "Attempts to infringe upon our right to self-defense will inevitably trigger corresponding countermeasures."
This statement is seen as a continuation of the statement by Ri Pyong-chol, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party, who declared "missile launches are an act of self-defense," signaling that North Korea may launch diplomatic offensives in the future.
Yang Moo-jin, a professor at the University of North Korean Studies, said, "It is characteristic that the statement criticizes the US, UK, and France while excluding China and Russia, engaging in a 'divide-and-criticize' approach," and analyzed, "The fact that the Director of the International Organizations Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the statement implies that the issue will continue to be raised diplomatically."

Kim Dong-yeop, also a professor at the University of North Korean Studies, said, "This is an aggressive stance that does not tolerate the negative trends against North Korea in the international community, including sanctions, and actively raises the unfairness of the other side," adding, "In a situation where the US is emphasizing ideology and values while strengthening alliances, North Korea intends to seek a breakthrough through an 'anti-US international coalition' centered on China and Russia."
