Hyundai Oilbank Blueclean Captures Both Environment and Future.
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hyundai Oilbank is expanding its gas station environmental improvement activity, 'Blue Clean,' into eco-friendly management within the sales headquarters.
'Blue Clean' is a compound word combining Hyundai Oilbank's signature color 'Blue' and 'Clean,' meaning cleanliness. It is a concept that applies the 'Total Productive Maintenance' activities, mainly conducted in factories to maximize efficiency, to gas stations.
After acquiring SK Networks' gas station sales rights last year, Hyundai Oilbank has been carrying out Blue Clean activities from the head of sales headquarters down to the gas station attendants to provide high-quality service based on a safe and clean store environment.
As Blue Clean activities at the gas station level gained momentum, Hyundai Oilbank decided to expand this into eco-friendly management at the sales headquarters level. The plan is to transform the entire value chain within the headquarters?from logistics centers to gas stations to general consumers?into an environmentally friendly system, aiming to simultaneously achieve environmental protection and secure future growth engines.
First, they will increase investment in eco-friendly facilities. Solar power generation facilities will be installed on idle land within logistics centers where petroleum products are received and shipped. The logistics centers, which consume the second-largest amount of electricity after production plants, will switch to eco-friendly power supply methods, and surplus electricity will be sold to generate additional revenue.
Hyundai Oilbank, operating eight logistics centers nationwide, has selected one logistics center each in the metropolitan area and provinces as pilot sites and is currently processing related permits. The 'Hyundai Homes' soil contamination prevention system for gas stations will also be expanded. Developed last year, 'Hyundai Homes' is a device that can monitor oil leakage in real-time through detection sensors installed on each fuel dispenser pipe. It can fundamentally prevent soil contamination caused by aging pipes.
Hyundai Oilbank plans to additionally install 'Hyundai Homes' in 150 directly operated gas stations this year and support installation in privately operated gas stations as well. The share of eco-friendly fuel businesses will also increase. The electric vehicle charging network, currently limited to 20 locations, will be expanded to 200 locations by 2023, and hydrogen charging stations will increase to 180 locations by 2030.
Currently operating one hydrogen charging station, Hyundai Oilbank plans to build an additional 2 to 3 hydrogen charging stations mainly in the metropolitan area this year.

A Hyundai Oilbank official said, "We are increasing sales of ultra-low sulfur marine fuel 'Hyundai Star' and premium lubricants 'Hyundai X-Tier,' which reduce fine dust and exhaust gases," adding, "We also plan to gradually reduce the proportion of petroleum product businesses at the headquarters level by expanding various platform businesses such as car washing, logistics, and parking."
