View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Nah Han-ah] In relation to the death of a 3-year-old girl in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, a photo taken immediately after birth by Kim (22), the eldest daughter of the deceased girl's biological mother, shows a broken ankle bracelet beside the newborn's head.
On the 28th, prosecutors and police investigating the case showed the photo to Kim's mother, Seok (48), and those around her to understand the circumstances of the incident. Typically, maternity hospitals attach ankle bracelets containing personal information to newborns at birth.
The photo is known to have been taken by Kim on her phone while caring for the baby after giving birth. The police believe the ankle bracelet was deliberately untied or cut, viewing this as a key clue that Seok swapped two newborns at the maternity clinic.
The police also confirmed that Seok first visited the maternity clinic on March 31, the day after Kim gave birth on March 30, 2018. Seok stated during police questioning that she visited the maternity clinic daily from the day after Kim's delivery until discharge. Seok, who was employed at the time, was found to have visited the clinic every day after work with her husband to check on Kim and the baby. Kim was discharged one week after giving birth.

The police are investigating Seok and the maternity clinic staff, believing the 'baby swap' occurred before April 2 of the same year, when the clinic conducted the baby's blood test. According to the maternity clinic records, the baby's blood type was A, Kim's was BB, and Kim's ex-husband Hong's was AB, leading the police to conclude that the baby was not their child.
