March 26 Opening Ceremony and Forum at Building 5 Engineering Hall
Rehabilitation and Diagnostic Research Launch, Discussion on Digital Healthcare Innovation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The industrial city of Ulsan is launching a digital healthcare research outpost specialized in industrial accidents and is set to fully commence its operations.
Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST, President Lee Yong-hoon) announced that it will hold the "Smart Healthcare Research Center Opening Ceremony" at 11 a.m. on the 26th in the 5th Engineering Building.
On this day, the research center will also host a forum discussing innovations in digital healthcare, marking the beginning of rehabilitation and diagnostic research in the industrial accident field.
The Smart Healthcare Research Center was established with the goal of advanced rehabilitation, mobile diagnostics, and convergence research in digital healthcare specialized for industrial accidents, as well as training specialized personnel.
Professor Cho Hyung-joon from the Department of Biomedical Engineering serves as the center director, with 15 expert faculty members participating in related fields.
The center will conduct research on rehabilitation robots and sensors, advanced sensor-based virtual reality (VR), and diagnostic systems based on information and communication technology and artificial intelligence (ICT/AI). It also plans to build infrastructure at the university to demonstrate and allow hands-on experience with these technologies.
Center Director Cho said, “We plan to lead smart healthcare research and demonstration to contribute to the clinical application and industrialization of biomedical technology.”
He added, “In the future, this will also help enhance the research capabilities of Ulsan Industrial Accident Public Hospital and improve hospital competitiveness by attracting outstanding talent.”
The research center will hold an online and offline workshop on the same day to discuss the latest technological trends in digital healthcare, telemedicine, and the future of the biomedical field.
Researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Kosin University, and UNIST will attend the workshop to present and engage in discussions.
President Lee Yong-hoon stated, “We plan to expand research personnel to produce notable achievements in biomedical research and technology commercialization,” emphasizing, “We will strive to make Ulsan a global research and development hub in the industrial accident field.”
