Gwangju City and Korea AVL Sign Business Agreement to Foster Future Automotive Industry

On the afternoon of the 25th, Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, signed a business agreement with Korea AVL Co., Ltd., a global automotive engineering company, at the city hall business room to foster the AI-based future automobile industry in the Gwangju Bitgreen Industrial Complex. View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] On the 25th, Gwangju Metropolitan City and the Free Economic Zone Authority signed a business agreement for the "Promotion of AI-based Future Automobile Industry in Gwangju Bitgreen Industrial Complex" attended by Mayor Lee Yong-seop, Kim Jin-cheol, head of Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority, and Kim Jin-hyung, CEO of Korea AVL Co., Ltd.
AVL, established in Austria in 1948, operates 45 branches in 26 countries worldwide including Germany, Japan, Korea, France, the United States, India, the United Kingdom, China, Sweden, Turkey, and Brazil. As a leading company in vehicle powertrain technology, it provides leading technologies, solutions, and services suitable for future mobility demands to global automakers and parts companies.
In Korea, over 130 employees work at business sites in Seoul, Incheon, Ansan, and Changwon.
Through this business agreement, AVL plans to focus on fostering the future automobile industry in Bitgreen Industrial Complex by leveraging its future automobile technology and role as a technology partner.
The main contents of the agreement include ▲ Providing a technology partner role necessary for the production of eco-friendly and autonomous vehicles by Gwangju Global Motors Co., Ltd., the first model of the Gwangju-type job ▲ Offering technical advice and related business solutions for fostering AI-based autonomous vehicle industry, developing excellent research personnel education programs, and establishing training centers ▲ Supporting infrastructure construction for eco-friendly parts certification centers and eco-friendly parts clusters ▲ Establishing joint research processes with GIST to enhance competitiveness in AI convergence technology, jointly participating in national R&D projects, and discovering corporate research projects ▲ Opening a Gwangju AVL office and expanding employment of local research personnel through establishment and operation.
Kim Jin-hyung, CEO of Korea AVL, said, "We will provide a specialized partner role so that Gwangju Global Motors Co., Ltd. and parts companies can have high global competitiveness, and present a practical and concrete industry-academia-research model through technical exchanges, joint research, and educational support with local research institutes and universities."
He added, "We will open a business site in the Gwangju area, support education for excellent local talent, and hire outstanding local personnel when recruiting AVL talent. Going forward, through the connection between the Songdo Technology Research Institute and the Gwangju office, we will enhance AVL's status in domestic automobile research and development and production bases."
Kim Jin-cheol, head of Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority, said, "By cooperating with AVL, a leader in future vehicle production technology, we will provide technical advice and related business solutions for fostering AI-based autonomous vehicle industry, as well as develop excellent research personnel education programs and establish training centers." He added, "We will actively promote business agreements and investment attraction with globally competitive companies that have been market-validated."
