[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 25th that it will be the first in the nation to attempt hydroponic cultivation of 산딸기 (wild raspberries).
The city secured a project budget of 60 million KRW through selection in the Gyeongnam Provincial Agricultural Technology Institute's "Excellent Agricultural Utilization Project for Regional Customized New Technology Dissemination" contest and is promoting a pilot project for hydroponic cultivation of 산딸기.
Gimhae is the largest production area, accounting for 60% of the national 산딸기 production, cultivated by 564 farms over an area of 197 hectares. However, with continued facility cultivation, salt accumulation in the soil and pests and diseases have increased, causing a continuous decline in production.
The city expects that this new technology dissemination will enable increased production along with stable high-quality production.
