GS Retail Builds Big Data-Based 'Weather Management Information System'

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] GS Retail announced on the 25th that it will sign a "Business Agreement for Realizing Social Value Based on Weather Management" with the Korea Meteorological Industry Technology Institute on the 26th.
The two parties plan to establish a customized "Weather Management Information System" linked with real-time weather information and develop related strategies in areas such as sales, logistics, and product management. GS Retail expects this to contribute to carbon reduction by optimizing energy consumption.
First, weather information, which was previously used on a daily basis for convenience stores, will be segmented by region, time zone, and weather elements to develop a predictive guide for ordering fresh food at GS25 convenience stores. GS Retail explained that this will help franchisees avoid missing sales opportunities and minimize product waste, thereby reducing resource waste.
Additionally, GS Retail plans to link its Smart Energy Management System (SEMS) with weather information to manage electricity and temperature at GS25 stores. SEMS is a system that remotely controls heating and cooling devices, indoor lighting, and electricity usage at stores nationwide through the headquarters' main server, and it is currently applied to over 15,000 GS25 stores.
