Geumcheon-gu to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 275,000 Tons by 2030
Geumcheon-gu Establishes Comprehensive Climate Change Response Plan for 2030...Aiming to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 16.4% (275,000 Tons) Compared to 2017 by 2030, Implementing 33 Projects Across 7 Sectors for Greenhouse Gas Reduction Policies
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yuseonghun) has established the 'Comprehensive Plan for Climate Change Response 2030' and will actively promote 33 projects across 7 sectors starting this year to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The district set a goal in the 'Comprehensive Plan for Climate Change Response 2030' to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 275,000 tons by 2030.
This represents 16.4% of the 1,265,000 tons emitted in 2017, and the district plans to focus on implementing reduction policies to respond to the increasingly severe climate crisis.
As part of its greenhouse gas reduction policies, the district selected 33 tasks in 7 areas: buildings (commercial and public), transportation, renewable energy, LED, waste, external projects, and households. It will establish an annual climate change response 2030 implementation plan and conduct performance evaluations and feedback.
Key projects include expanding the distribution of eco-friendly buildings and promoting energy savings through energy diagnostics in the buildings (commercial and public) sector; and promoting the distribution of eco-friendly vehicles, expanding hydrogen and electric charging stations, and implementing eco-driving projects in the transportation sector.
Additionally, in the renewable energy sector, the district plans to focus on the veranda and residential solar power distribution project, while in the household sector, it will emphasize expanding passenger cars and eco-mileage, as well as creating additional energy self-reliant villages.
Regarding tree planting projects, the district is currently developing greenhouse gas coefficients by tree species in residential areas, and additional greenhouse gas reduction amounts are expected to be calculated after the research and development is completed in 2024.
Meanwhile, under the leadership of Mayor Yuseonghun during the 7th local government term, the district is making various continuous efforts to reduce greenhouse gases under the environmental vision of "A Pleasant and Sustainable Environmental City, Geumcheon."
In recognition of these achievements, last year the district received the 'Presidential Citation at the Korea Green Management Awards' and the 'Prime Minister's Citation for Contributions to Promoting Eco-friendly Technology and Consumption.'
