Due to COVID-19 Stay-at-Home... LGU+ 'SmartHomeT' Subscribers Jump 7 Times in One Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] The so-called 'home training tribe' who enjoy exercising at home has sharply increased over the past year due to the impact of COVID-19.
LG Uplus announced on the 24th that the cumulative number of subscribers to 'SmartHomeT', a home training specialized service jointly provided with 'Kakao VX', increased 7.4 times in one year. During the same period, the cumulative number of users also jumped more than fivefold.
SmartHomeT is a service that allows users to access over 40 home training programs such as bodyweight strength training, Pilates, golf, and boxing taught by famous instructors via mobile and IPTV. The usage rate of SmartHomeT began to increase significantly from early last year when non-face-to-face became normalized. The cumulative number of subscribers grew by 25% every month, and the actual user (UV) growth rate in 2020 also recorded an average monthly increase of 31%.
An LG Uplus official explained, "The launch of the SmartHomeT TV service last year also drove subscriber growth," adding, "The ability to easily follow the instructor's movements on a larger screen compared to smartphones, and the convenience of being able to use it immediately by just turning on the TV without separate operation, seem to have played a key role."
Since the TV service launch in September last year, the average daily users of SmartHomeT increased 2.3 times. In particular, for kids' content that allows exercising with children, the number of executions and viewing time surged more than tenfold.
The 'Golf Training Program' introduced in February this year also surpassed 9,000 minutes of customer exercise time within a month. Coaches Hamsanggyu and Kim Seonghwan, famous trainers affiliated with KLPGA and KPGA, guide exercise movements used by active golf players during training, continuously receiving positive responses.
Son Minseon, Executive Director of LG Uplus XaaS Business Division, said, "SmartHomeT, which started with the interest of women in their 30s and 40s, is seeing a significant increase in subscribers due to the launch of the TV service and the untact situation," adding, "We will continue to introduce various content that allows fun exercise according to age and gender."
