Towards 'Carbon Zero' by 2050: 'Green Apartment' Certification... Busan City Selects 7 Excellent Multi-family Housing Complexes Last Year
Promotion of Green Apartments for Carbon Neutrality Practice and Expansion Targeting Apartment Complexes with Over 150 Households
7 Final Sites Selected from 901 Evaluated Last Year ... Awards and Greenhouse Gas Reduction Project Funds Provided
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan City (Acting Mayor Lee Byung-jin) has selected the ‘2020 Green Apartment’ certification, which is awarded to apartment complexes with 150 or more households to promote and spread carbon-neutral living practices.
Busan City has been implementing the Green Apartment certification system since 2011 as a greenhouse gas reduction project in the non-industrial sector to achieve carbon neutrality (carbon zero) by 2050.
The Green Apartment certification project evaluates a total of 10 items for apartment complexes with 150 or more households compared to the previous year, including quantitative indicators such as ▲electricity, water, and gas reduction rates ▲recycling separation rate ▲food waste reduction rate ▲participation rate in passenger car day system ▲participation rate in the carbon point system ▲participation rate in greenhouse gas diagnosis and consulting ▲participation rate in low-carbon villages, as well as qualitative indicators such as ▲efforts and activities to reduce greenhouse gases and other best practices.
The city evaluated 901 apartment complexes with 150 or more households through 16 autonomous districts and counties and an evaluation committee, ultimately selecting 7 Green Apartments.
The highest award went to ▲Jugong Apartment (Yeongdo-gu), excellence awards to ▲Hakjang-dong 2nd Samsung Apartment (Sasang-gu) and ▲Shin-ik Riverside Town Apartment (Saha-gu), and encouragement awards to ▲Eden Kumho Town (Yeongdo-gu), ▲Gyeongnam Hanshin Apartment (Geumjeong-gu), ▲Daeryuk Koreana (Dongnae-gu), and ▲Mangmi Hanshin (Suyeong-gu).
Selected Green Apartments receive not only certificates and plaques but also project funds for carbon-neutral living practices: 4 million KRW for the highest award, 2 million KRW each for excellence awards, and 1 million KRW each for encouragement awards, totaling 12 million KRW. These funds can be used for greenhouse gas reduction projects such as replacing lighting and planting trees within the apartment complexes.
Through the Green Apartment certification project, Busan City reduced a total of 7,407 tons of greenhouse gases last year alone. The project achieved positive results by spreading the carbon-neutral living movement through proactive activities at the apartment unit level, encouraging voluntary participation of residents, and promoting community harmony.
