[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is promoting the ‘Urban Hanok Village Cafe’ project by purchasing a restaurant site within the Sadang 4-dong Urban Regeneration New Deal area to create a resting place for local residents.
Sadang 4-dong was selected as a New Deal project site by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2019 and has been carrying out a total of 26 billion KRW worth of seed money projects over three years until 2023 under the vision of ‘Three Generations, 100 Years! A Smart Village with Living Stories.’
This village cafe creation is being promoted as part of the urban regeneration seed money project by purchasing the existing restaurant site (located at Sadang-ro 16ra-gil 74) and constructing a village cafe incorporating urban hanok architecture.
Through the village cafe, the district plans various programs such as ▲selling traditional menus like coffee, tea, and Hangwa ▲outdoor yard busking performances ▲operating flea markets to allow residents to relax and enjoy life.
In particular, to promote resident-led urban regeneration, the operator of the village cafe will be selected through a public contest targeting Dongjak-gu residents and others.
After establishing the architectural plan in April, the district aims to complete the design by the end of this year, start full-scale construction, and complete the project by September next year.
For more details about the project, inquiries can be made to the Strategic Projects Division.
Meanwhile, to create synergy with the historical and cultural resources of Sadang 4-dong, the district is also promoting the ‘Maintenance of the Hyo-gang Gong Lee Jeong-yeong Burial Site Trail’ and the ‘Creation of a Themed Street around Ggachisan’ projects adjacent to the village cafe.
