Yangcheon-gu Operates Screening Clinic for Proactive Testing of Foreign Construction Workers
On the 23rd, over 130 foreign workers at vulnerable small and medium construction sites underwent proactive COVID-19 testing... Prior consultation held for 7 construction sites in Mokdong and Sinjeong-dong areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) recently operated mobile screening clinics at small and medium-sized construction sites in the area to prevent COVID-19 cluster infections within construction sites, conducting proactive COVID-19 testing for about 130 people, including foreign workers.
The district has actively encouraged proactive testing for workers at construction sites in the area, but small and medium-sized construction sites, which employ many day laborers and foreign workers, faced difficulties in smoothly conducting proactive testing.
In particular, undocumented foreign workers have been identified as a risk factor for large-scale infections at construction sites, as they tend to avoid proactive testing or lack willingness to participate due to concerns about identity exposure and quarantine costs.
Accordingly, targeting small and medium-sized construction sites considered potential high-risk areas, the district received support from Seoul City's "Mobile Screening Clinics" and, on the morning of the 22nd, with location cooperation from a construction site in Mok-dong, conducted proactive COVID-19 testing for about 130 people, including foreign workers.
The "Mobile Screening Clinics" conducted this time were carried out after prior consultations with site managers (agents) of seven construction sites in Sinjeong-dong and Mok-dong areas. The testing schedule was adjusted individually for each site to minimize movement routes and on-site waiting times, ensuring thorough preparation.
