Applications Accepted from March 29 to April 9 via Gangbuk-gu Office Website and Visits... 10 Lectures Covering the Life and Practical Learning Philosophy of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong... Two On-site Learning Sessions Scheduled for the Second Half of the Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is operating the lifelong learning program "Dasan (茶山) Academy" online for residents and is recruiting students for the 19th term.
To prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the district has converted the program, which was previously conducted as face-to-face lectures, to a non-face-to-face format.
Dasan Academy is a lifelong learning program jointly prepared by Gangbuk-gu, Seoul Cyber University Lifelong Education Center, and the Dasan Research Institute.
The lectures cover the life and practical learning philosophy of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong, a representative thinker and reformer of the late Joseon Dynasty, delivering specialized knowledge in various fields such as economics and literature, as well as practical wisdom to adapt to rapidly changing society to the residents.
Anyone residing in Gangbuk-gu or operating a business within Gangbuk-gu can apply.
The district is recruiting a total of 60 students from March 29 to April 9.
Applicants can visit the Education Support Division on the 3rd floor of Gangbuk-gu Office or apply through the "District Administration Participation (Integrated Reservation Application)" section on the Gangbuk-gu Office website. The tuition fee is 20,000 KRW.
Students can attend classes for 10 weeks from April 26 to July 5 through the Seoul Cyber University Lifelong Education Center website. Lectures are posted once a week for one week, and students can freely attend at their preferred time within the period.
In addition to the 10 weeks of online lectures, the district plans to hold two on-site field trips in the second half of the year to provide an opportunity to experience the life of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong.
The district will strictly follow social distancing guidelines according to the COVID-19 spread situation to operate the on-site learning in the second half of the year.
Since the first term in 2011, a total of 1,080 people have taken Dasan Academy, which is composed of excellent instructors and high-quality education, showing high satisfaction among students.

Furthermore, graduates formed the "Dasan Spirit Practice Association" in 2014 and contribute to social service by volunteering their talents for Dasan research and regional community development.
