Yeosu City Conducts Mass Vaccination for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Prevention in the First Half of This Year
Full Effort to Achieve 100% Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccine Coverage Target
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced on the 22nd that it will conduct a mass vaccination campaign targeting cattle and goats (including deer) from next month to prevent foot-and-mouth disease.
According to the city, the vaccination targets include 3,550 cattle from 334 livestock farms and 878 goats (including deer) from 70 farms within the jurisdiction.
The vaccination method is that full-time farmers raising 50 or more cattle purchase foot-and-mouth disease vaccines through the Livestock Cooperative (100% subsidized) and conduct voluntary vaccinations.
For small-scale farms raising fewer than 50 cattle or fewer than 300 goats, where voluntary vaccination is difficult, three public veterinarians commissioned by the city will support preventive vaccinations in their respective areas.
In particular, Yeosu City aims to achieve a 100% vaccination rate for the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine by assigning a person in charge to each farm to guide the vaccination process and verify the vaccination status of each farm.
Cattle and goats receive two regular vaccinations annually in April and October, and foot-and-mouth disease vaccinations are strictly managed through the Livestock Product Traceability System and the National Animal Disease Control Integrated System.
Since October last year, the city has considered it a high-risk period for malignant livestock infectious diseases and has implemented special quarantine measures, operating one key disinfection facility 24 hours a day and running an animal infectious disease quarantine situation room.
As African swine fever continues to occur in wild boars and spreads southward, since October 19 last year, a control post for quarantine has been operated at the entrance of Doseong Village, a pig farming dense area, until the situation ends.
