Donghak Gaemi Study Hard... Securities Firms Enter the 1 Million YouTube Era
Kiwoom Surpasses First 1 Million Subscribers
2030 Generation Emerges as Major Investors
Young Beginner Investors Utilize YouTube Information
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] The securities industry has entered the era of 1 million YouTube subscribers. It is evaluated that taking on the role of an investment guide by providing customized investment content for the 2030 generation, who massively entered the stock market due to last year's Donghak Ants craze, was effective.
According to the financial investment industry on the 22nd, as of 9 a.m. that day, Kiwoom Securities' official YouTube channel ‘Channel K’ recorded 1.04 million subscribers. Kiwoom Securities surpassed 1 million subscribers for the first time among domestic securities companies' YouTube channels on the 19th. This came just four months after Mirae Asset Daewoo became the first in the industry to surpass 100,000 YouTube channel subscribers in November last year. Samsung Securities and Mirae Asset Daewoo's YouTube channels also recorded 908,000 and 887,000 subscribers respectively, approaching the 1 million mark. Ebest Investment & Securities’ Irion (103,000 subscribers), Hana Financial Investment’s Hana TV (94,600 subscribers), and Korea Investment & Securities’ Bankis (88,100 subscribers) are also actively operating YouTube channels.
The recent sharp rise in YouTube subscribers in the securities industry is attributed to the 2030 generation emerging as major investors in the stock market. Last year, six securities companies including Mirae Asset Daewoo, KB, NH Investment & Securities, Korea Investment & Securities, Kiwoom, and Yuanta Securities opened 7.23 million new accounts. Of these, 3.92 million accounts, accounting for 54%, are under the names of people in their 20s and 30s.
Newly started 2030 generation investors are using information obtained through YouTube, which they are familiar with, as a key indicator for investment decisions. They learn various investment information such as how to use Mobile Trading Systems (MTS), overseas stock investment, and public offering subscription methods through videos provided on securities companies’ YouTube channels. Moreover, since the information is provided by highly reliable experts guaranteed by the securities companies, credibility is also ensured.
Securities companies are also responding quickly to investors' demands. Kiwoom Securities conducts live broadcasts from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, providing strategies for the constantly changing market situation. Contents such as ‘the Gongsi’, which easily explains corporate disclosures, and ‘Analyst Talk Show (Aetok Show)’, which offers easy-to-understand analyst report explanations, are also receiving good responses. Mirae Asset Daewoo also expanded its research content area by releasing the industry's first ‘AI-powered report’ on the 8th.

In the case of Samsung Securities, the ‘Mr. Overseas Stocks’ corner, which solves the questions of Seohak Ants (Korean investors investing in US stocks) together with researchers who interviewed stock managers of global large corporations, is popular. A Samsung Securities official said, "We are focusing on increasing the proportion of live programming to provide timely investment information, as well as communication through live comments and producing customer-friendly content by analyzing comment requests."
