View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will operate the 'Seongdong-gu Companion Dog Together Center' for local pet owners starting from the 15th of this month to support households struggling with problematic behaviors of their companion dogs.
As the number of pet owners increases, so does the number of people expressing difficulties with problematic behaviors of their companion dogs.
Problematic behaviors in companion dogs are not only issues for the dog owners but can also cause conflicts with neighbors, safety concerns such as dog bite incidents, or social problems like the occurrence of abandoned animals.
In response, last year the district operated the nation's first free consultation office for companion animals and a behavior correction education program, along with companion dog walking manners education, visiting companion dog home classes, a pet etiquette campaign with honorary animal protection monitors, and video contests, receiving great support from residents through various animal welfare-related policies.
This year, to address concerns and problematic behaviors arising from raising companion dogs, the district plans to provide related information through experts to offer integrated support including consultation, education, and behavior correction programs.
The 'Seongdong-gu Companion Dog Together Center,' conducted online, consists of e-education clinics and free consultation offices where detailed behavior correction can be received from experts.
Any resident who registers on the website can use the free consultation service and watch educational videos related to companion animals.
Additionally, dog owners troubled by problematic behaviors of their dogs can receive behavior correction education.
The behavior correction education program, consisting of three stages, determines the education level based on the severity of the dog's problematic behavior. When a problematic behavior is recorded on video and submitted, experts analyze the footage; early-stage problematic behaviors are addressed through phone education, while moderate to severe cases receive one-on-one on-site education.
The behavior correction program, which can be applied for from the 1st to the 7th of each month, operates from April to November and is free of charge. Detailed information such as schedules can be found on the 'Seongdong-gu Companion Dog Behavior Center' website.
