Haenam-gun Leads Post-Corona Sports Marketing
Accelerating the Development of Samsan-myeon 2nd Sports Town and Boosting Sports Marketing
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do is responding to the revitalization of sports marketing after COVID-19 by creating a Second Sports Town.
According to Haenam-gun on the 20th, a total project cost of 18 billion KRW, including 4.3 billion KRW in national funds, will be invested to build the Second Sports Town in the Pyeonghwal-ri area of Samsan-myeon.
The Second Sports Town, covering an area of 113,506㎡ and equipped with two soccer fields and two adult baseball fields, is expected to play a significant role in revitalizing sports marketing by accommodating the anticipated increase in residents' recreational sports activities and attracting nationwide sports competitions after COVID-19.
Currently, the basic and detailed designs are underway, with design completion scheduled for the end of this year, construction starting next year, and completion targeted by the end of 2023.
In addition, the county plans to complete a Complex Sports Culture Center near Useul Sports Park by 2023. Of the total project cost of 8.6 billion KRW, 5.1 billion KRW will be supported by national funds.
The Complex Sports Culture Center will be a multi-purpose facility with a total floor area of 3,250㎡, consisting of one basement floor and two above-ground floors. It will integrate a swimming pool specialized for people with disabilities and a small library, and provide spaces such as a fitness room to create a sports and cultural space that local residents can enjoy together.
Furthermore, the expansion of sports infrastructure is being steadily promoted, including the construction of a dedicated badminton court, remodeling of the Useul Stadium spectator seats and installation of lighting towers, and rain shelters for the Useul Soft Tennis Court.
Haenam-gun is equipped with Useul Stadium, which has an athletics track and natural grass field, three dedicated soccer fields, Useul Gymnasium and Dongbaek Gymnasium capable of hosting nationwide competitions, as well as a swimming pool, weight training room, and an eight-lane all-weather indoor athletics stadium within Useul Sports Park.
These facilities are concentrated within a 10-minute distance centered around Useul Stadium, allowing athletes to conduct basic physical training and competitions without traveling far, making it one of the most efficient training facilities nationwide.
The new Second Sports Town will be established near Samsan-myeon, where lodging and restaurants are concentrated, which will not only meet the increasing demand for recreational sports activities but also further boost sports marketing revitalization through attracting various training camps.
County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan stated, “We are accelerating the creation of the Second Sports Town to meet the growing demand for recreational sports and sports marketing,” adding, “Once completed, it is expected to play a major role in revitalizing the local economy by increasing visits from sportspeople to Haenam.”

Meanwhile, Haenam-gun is a stronghold of sports marketing, attracting an average of about 143,000 visitors annually through nationwide competitions and training camps, and won the top award in the 2020 Jeollanam-do training camp evaluation.
