Due to the assault, Ms. Xiao suffered bruises on her face, especially around her eyes. She did not remain passive and fought back by grabbing a wooden stick nearby.
Eventually, Jenkins also sustained injuries to his face, and emergency responders who arrived at the scene transported him to the hospital on a stretcher.
Ms. Xiao shouted in Chinese at Jenkins, who was on the stretcher, "Why are you hitting me?" and "This man hit me."

Regarding the incident, Ms. Xiao said, "I was shocked by the unprovoked attack and instinctively fought back the moment I was assaulted."
