Jeonnam Province "Farmers and Fishermen, Apply for Additional Public Interest Allowance"
Operation for Farmers and Fishermen Who Missed February Applications to Run for Two Weeks Starting the 29th
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 19th that it will operate an additional application period for the payment of the public interest allowance for farmers and fishermen this year.
This measure is to assist farmers and fishermen who were unable to apply during the public interest allowance application and reception period in February due to personal circumstances.
According to the province's own investigation, about 1,000 farmers and fishermen were unable to apply during the previous application period due to personal reasons such as traveling to other regions or hospital admission.
Accordingly, additional applications will be accepted for two weeks from the 29th of this month to the 9th of next month.
The payment is planned to be completed by the end of next month.
Eligible applicants are those who have had an address in the province since before December 31, 2019, and have continuously engaged in farming or fishing for more than one year.
Farmers and fishermen who wish to receive the allowance should prepare the required documents such as a certificate of comprehensive income amount and a consent form for the collection and use of personal information, and apply at their local eup, myeon, or dong office.
During the application and reception period last month, the province and city/counties received a total of 205,647 applications for the public interest allowance through 297 eup, myeon, and dong offices across the province.
Among them, excluding 11,573 people who did not meet the eligibility requirements such as non-residents of the province and those registered as agricultural or fishery business operators for less than one year, a total of 194,074 people were confirmed as payment recipients.
This is an increase of 2,746 people (1.4%) compared to the 191,328 confirmed recipients last year.
This is due to the improvement of the system from this year to also pay the allowance to farmers and fishermen who live in the same household as public officials and employees of public institutions.
So far, a total of 104,476 people in 12 cities and counties in the province have received 62.7 billion won, and the remaining cities and counties are expected to complete payments by the end of this month.
Once the payments are completed, a total of 116.4 billion won will be distributed in the Jeonnam region, which is expected to help stabilize the livelihoods of farmers and fishermen and also benefit local small business owners through a virtuous cycle of consumption.
Son Myung-do, Director of the Agricultural Policy Division of Jeonnam Province, said, “The province and city/counties will cooperate to ensure that every eligible farmer receives the public interest allowance without exception,” and added, “We will strive to develop this into a national policy to provide more benefits.”

In the first year of introduction last year, 114.8 billion won was paid to 191,328 heads of agricultural and fishery management entities.
