Japan Fully Lifts 'COVID-19 State of Emergency' After About 70 Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The Japanese government has decided to fully lift the state of emergency declared to curb the spread of COVID-19 on the 21st of this month.
Yoshihide Suga, Prime Minister of Japan, announced at the COVID-19 task force meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office in the afternoon that the state of emergency, which has been maintained in four metropolitan areas including Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, and Chiba prefectures, will be lifted on the 21st of this month. The Japanese government decided to lift the state of emergency 73 days after it was enacted on January 8 of this year.
Before the decision to lift the state of emergency, Prime Minister Suga appeared at the House of Representatives Steering Committee meeting held that day and explained the background, saying, "The expert advisory panel comprehensively considered the infection situation and the medical care provision system and gave their understanding to end the state of emergency measures."
