Jeonnam Fire Department's Full Effort to Promote 'Gas Leak Detector Fire Safety Standards'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters has launched a campaign to promote the enforcement of the Fire Safety Standards for Gas Leak Detectors (NFSC 206) announced by the National Fire Agency.
According to Jeonnam Fire on the 18th, a carbon monoxide poisoning accident occurred last December in a camping bus in Goheung, Jeonnam, where people were sleeping in their vehicles.
Prior to this, in December 2018, there was a gas poisoning accident at a pension in Gangneung, Gangwon, and recently, accidents caused by gas leaks, such as a gas leak explosion at a detached house in Changwon, Gyeongnam, have continued to occur.
Although the existing Enforcement Decree of the Act on Fire Prevention, Installation and Maintenance of Firefighting Facilities and Safety Management stipulated the mandatory installation of gas leak detectors, there were no detailed installation standards.
Accordingly, the main contents of the newly established standards include definitions of terms related to gas leak detectors and related devices, installation standards, detailed criteria for installation locations, and power supply methods.
Combustible gas detectors must be installed around gas combustion appliances using flammable gases such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and carbon monoxide detectors must be installed separately to detect carbon monoxide leaks, with installation methods and locations appropriate to the purpose and performance of each detector.
Jeonnam Fire plans to verify the appropriateness of safety standards for existing installation targets during special fire inspections, along with promoting the newly established fire safety standards.
