Yongsan Jeju Youth Hostel Certified as 'Nation's Best Facility'
Ministry of Gender Equality and Family's 2020 Comprehensive Evaluation Report Praises Facility Operation Rate, Financial Management, Hygiene, and Other Areas... Maintains Top Grade for Next 2 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongjang Hyun), which operates Yongsan Jeju Youth Hostel (297 Ieodo-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province), received the ‘Most Excellent’ rating in the 2020 Comprehensive Evaluation of Youth Training Facilities hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
The evaluation criteria included ▲annual facility utilization rate ▲systematic accounting management ▲facility cleanliness and hygiene status ▲safety management of fire, electrical, and gas facilities. The Korea Youth Policy Institute, a national research institute under the Prime Minister’s Office, conducted document and on-site evaluations of over 500 youth training facilities nationwide.
The evaluation is conducted every two years, and the rating is maintained for two years.
Yongsan Jeju Youth Hostel opened in 2017. It is located on a 11,422㎡ site and consists of two buildings: the main building (basement 1, 3 floors above ground, total floor area 4,125㎡) and the annex (2 floors above ground, total floor area 274㎡).
The main building has 45 rooms, a seminar room, a restaurant, a karaoke room, and a billiard room. The rooms vary in size, including 10-pyeong type (12 rooms), 15-pyeong type (6 rooms), 20-pyeong type (20 rooms), 25-pyeong type (6 rooms), and 28-pyeong type (1 room).
Additional facilities include a snack bar, a tangerine experience farm, a jokgu court (also used as a badminton court), an outdoor deck, and a barbecue area. Customized services are provided for family tourists as well as students on school trips.
Nearby the facility is Yakcheonsa Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in East Asia, and natural Jeju resources such as Jusangjeolli Cliff, Seogwipo Natural Recreation Forest, and Jeongbang Waterfall can be enjoyed close by.
The facility is operated by the district’s Facility Management Corporation. The fees range from 60,000 to 120,000 KRW during the off-season, and residents of the district pay half price (30,000 to 60,000 KRW). Those wishing to make a reservation can apply through the Yongsan Jeju Youth Hostel website.

Mayor Seongjang Hyun said, “Yongsan Jeju Youth Hostel has established itself as a top-level facility nationwide within four years of opening,” and added, “The district will continue to do its best to enhance the welfare of its residents.”
