At 2 p.m. on the 17th, Lee, a public official from Jungnang-gu Office, smiled as he spoke in front of the blood donation bus at Jungnang-gu Office. Lee stated that he has participated in blood donations every time there is a Love Blood Donation event at the district office.
Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) announced that it held a ‘Love Blood Donation’ event in front of Jungnang-gu Office on the 17th.
This Love Blood Donation event started in September 2005 and has continued annually, marking its 31st occurrence this time. So far, a total of 2,253 Jungnang-gu Office employees and social service agents have participated in the Love Blood Donation.
Thanks to the long-running blood donation events, a blood donation culture has naturally developed among the employees. Each time the Love Blood Donation is held, the Jungnang-gu Office Labor Union has also organized small events to encourage employees to donate blood.
Last year, concerned about low participation due to COVID-19, ice cream gifticons were given to participating employees, and small gift certificates were awarded to those who donated blood certificates. The donated blood certificates are used for blood certificate donation projects to help underprivileged neighbors.
In 2017, an agreement was signed with the Korean Red Cross Seoul Eastern Blood Center to conduct the Love Blood Donation three times a year. In 2019, the Korean Red Cross awarded a plaque of appreciation in recognition of continuous blood donation volunteer work.
The district has also spared no effort to spread the blood donation culture and encourage blood donation among residents. In 2016, a related ordinance was enacted to encourage residents to donate blood and raise awareness about the necessity of blood donation.
