Gyeongnam Information University (President Chu Man-seok) announced that the professional officer track held the 2021 academic year commissioning and promotion ceremony at the ICT Art Hall on the same day.
Since its establishment in 2007 as the first professional officer department in Busan, the department has held an annual commissioning ceremony for new students to practice loyalty to the country and the dream of national defense. Additionally, a promotion and epaulet awarding ceremony has been conducted for second-year students to reaffirm their new beginnings.
Fifty-two new students, including Im Gun-hee (1st year) and Kim Song-jeong (1st year), pledged at the commissioning ceremony, “As students of the professional officer track, we will fulfill our duties and responsibilities and do our best to cultivate the qualities of elite junior officers.”
Jin Ye-ji (2nd year), who participated in the promotion ceremony, said, “This event gave me another opportunity to feel pride in my military career path,” and expressed her determination, “I will become a leader who can serve the country and its people.”
Department head Lim Gye-hwan of the professional officer track explained, “The promotion and commissioning ceremonies are not mere events but the starting point that ignites the flame of patriotic devotion, a strong sense of mission to take responsibility for the country,” adding, “They embody the establishment of the department’s identity and the commitment to complete the pride, love for the country, leadership, military competence, moral character, and practical actions required of future military officers.”
The Gyeongnam Information University side stated, “This promotion and commissioning ceremony is a signal fire for training disciplined and spirited junior officers, so the faculty will teach with enthusiasm and spare no effort or support.”
The professional officer track has long been a cradle for training the nation’s top-level non-commissioned officers. It has successfully placed graduates as NCOs in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Special Forces. Starting this year, a bachelor’s degree advanced major course in military science for 3rd and 4th-year students has been established, allowing students to earn a bachelor’s degree in military science.
