On the 16th local time, Jeong Jae-hoon, president of KHNP, visited the headquarters of Petrojet in Cairo, Egypt, and signed a cooperation agreement with Petrojet.
With this agreement, KHNP, along with Korea Electric Power Technology, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, will accelerate cooperation with local Egyptian companies based on their proven nuclear power plant construction experience and business capabilities, both domestically and in the UAE Barakah nuclear power plant project.
KHNP will support the training of local Egyptian technicians and experts and establish a long-term cooperative relationship.
To participate in the El Dabaa nuclear power plant project, KHNP must meet the localization requirements (localization ratio of 20-35%) demanded by the Egyptian government, and through cooperation with Petrojet, a leading local construction company and public enterprise, KHNP has secured a foundation for project participation.
Petrojet is a company with extensive EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) experience and capabilities in various plant constructions across the Middle East and Africa regions.
Jeong Jae-hoon, president of KHNP, said, “We will successfully lead participation in the El Dabaa nuclear power plant project, enter the Egyptian market together with domestic nuclear power equipment companies, and inject new vitality into the nuclear power industry.”
The El Dabaa nuclear power plant project in Egypt was awarded in 2017 by JSC ASE, a subsidiary of Russia’s state-owned nuclear company Rosatom, from the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA). The project involves constructing four VVER-1200 units, with full-scale construction expected to begin next year.
