U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken arrived on the afternoon of the 17th at Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, and greeted Lt. Gen. Scott Pleas, the commander of the Seventh Air Force and deputy commander of U.S. Forces Korea. This marks the first face-to-face meeting between the heads of diplomacy and security of South Korea and the United States since the Biden administration took office. They are expected to discuss key issues including the North Korean nuclear problem, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, trilateral cooperation among South Korea, the U.S., and Japan, and the transfer of wartime operational control. It is the first time since July 2010 that both the U.S. Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense have visited South Korea simultaneously. /Photo by Joint Press Corps
