Fire Agency to Host 'National Fire Safety Instructor Competition' on the 18th
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The National Fire Agency announced on the 17th that it will hold the 7th Fire Safety Instructor Competition on the 18th at the Government Sejong Complex, where fire safety instructors from across the country will compete to showcase their skills.
Fire safety instructors are firefighters who have worked for more than five years and meet certain qualification requirements, designated by the fire chief or fire station chief as individuals with a sense of duty and capability. Currently, 1,006 fire safety instructors are active nationwide, and last year they provided education to 2,224,900 people.
Hosted by the National Fire Agency and sponsored by the Korea Firefighters Mutual Aid Association and the Korea Fire Industry Technology Institute, this competition features 10 outstanding instructors selected through regional preliminaries competing fiercely.
The presenters will give lectures assuming real educational situations targeting infants, elementary students, adolescents, and the elderly, focusing on themes such as water play, accidents and first aid, and precautions when going out.
The competition ranking will be determined by combining scores from teaching materials (40%) and presentation content (60%). The judging panel consists of five external experts. One grand prize winner, three excellence awardees, and six encouragement awardees will be selected and awarded. The grand prize winner will receive the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award and a prize of 400,000 KRW, while the three excellence awardees will each receive the National Fire Agency Commissioner Award and a prize of 300,000 KRW.
Additionally, the encouragement awards will be presented along with prizes from the Korea Firefighters Mutual Aid Association President (3 recipients) and the Korea Fire Industry Technology Institute President (3 recipients). Last year, Fire Officer Kim Ki-beom from Gumi Fire Station in Gyeongbuk won the grand prize with a lecture on home safety for the elderly.
The National Fire Agency plans to limit participation to essential personnel to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and will strictly adhere to COVID-19 prevention guidelines during the event.
