View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Self-employed business owners who have performed good deeds for neighbors in more difficult situations than themselves are receiving so-called 'Donzzul,' inspiring many. Donzzul is a newly coined term combining 'don' (money) and 'honzzul' (a scolding or reprimand), meaning intentionally placing large orders at businesses that have done good deeds to help them earn money.
Recently, a story was reported about a mart owner in Hyoja-dong, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do, who helped save a person's life with sharp judgment, prompting netizens to show their 'Donzzul' support.
The mart owner, Mr. A, received a customer around 4:45 p.m. on the 28th of last month. The customer remained silent for about 20 minutes before purchasing two bottles of soju and some charcoal briquettes.
Finding this suspicious, Mr. A followed the customer, noted the vehicle number, and reported to 112, saying, "A customer bought two bottles of soju and charcoal briquettes, and I have a bad feeling about it." The police responded and, after about two hours, confirmed that the vehicle was passing through Buan-eup, Buan-gun.
As Mr. A suspected, the customer was considering an extreme choice. However, thanks to the family who rushed to the scene after being contacted by the police, the customer returned safely.
After this news spread, netizens responded with comments such as, "The mart owner's judgment saved a precious life," and "Thanks to the thoughtful heart, a life was saved," expressing their deep emotion.
They also shared the mart's address on social media platforms and online communities, suggesting, "Let's go give them Donzzul."
Mr. A told 'Yonhap News' in an interview on the 5th, "Even though the store name was not mentioned in the news, regular customers came and said, 'I could tell it was you just by looking at the register. It's really a good deed,' and they were happy as if it were their own matter."

View original imageThis kind of Donzzul case continued at a chicken restaurant. Earlier, Park Jaewhee, the owner of 'Cheolin 7ho' Hongdae branch, recently shared a handwritten letter from a high school student, Mr. B, who visited the headquarters in January, on his SNS.
In the letter, Mr. B confessed that he lost his parents when he was young and lives with his grandmother and 11-year-old younger sibling. After being laid off from a restaurant due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year and struggling financially, his younger sibling kept asking to eat chicken. With only 5,000 won, they wandered through several stores.
At that time, Mr. Park invited the siblings inside his restaurant and provided chicken free of charge. He continued to offer free chicken to Mr. B's younger sibling, who visited the chicken shop several times secretly, and even took him to a hair salon to get a haircut.
After the story became known, netizens moved by Mr. Park's good deed placed orders for chicken at the restaurant to give Donzzul. Due to the surge in orders, as of 1 p.m. on the 2nd, 'Cheolin 7ho' ranked 14th in popular search terms on the Baedal Minjok application (a delivery app).
On the 15th, Mr. Park posted on his Instagram, "Recently, I have been busy with truly dreamlike days filled with countless support and praise from all over the country, and more interest than I can handle in a single day," expressing his gratitude.
He added, "Since I did not do this expecting any reward, honestly, the attention and love I am receiving now are somewhat frightening and feel like a heavy burden," and "I am rather grateful and thankful to the siblings who responded to my heart."
Mr. Park also revealed that he donated 6 million won from the income earned after Donzzul. He explained, "From February 25 until now, about 3 million won in sales came from orders placed nationwide through the delivery app for sponsorship purposes, about 2 million won in donations, and I added 1 million won myself, totaling 6 million won donated to the Mapo-gu Office Dream Tree Support Project."
