Incheon Office of Education Promotes Relocation of Jemulpo High School to Songdo... Aiming to Establish an Educational Complex by 2026
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Jemulpo High School, located in the original downtown area of Incheon, is planned to be relocated to Songdo International City, with a plan to create an educational complex on its current site.
On the 16th, Do Seonghun, Superintendent of Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, held a press conference and stated, "We will promote the creation of the Incheon Educational Complex to revitalize the original downtown area by 2026," adding, "The planned site under consideration is the Jemulpo High School site (total floor area 17,534㎡) located in the original downtown."
The Metropolitan Office of Education is currently pursuing the plan to move Jemulpo High School, which is located in Jeondong, Jung-gu, to Songdo International City, but the specific relocation site has not yet been decided.
To this end, the Office of Education plans to hold three briefing sessions by next month to gather opinions from residents, merchant associations, civic groups, and the Jemulpo High School alumni association, and will engage in detailed consultations with local governments such as Incheon City and Jung-gu.
In the event of Jemulpo High School's relocation, an educational complex is planned to be developed on the site.
They are considering moving the Incheon Southern Education Support Office, which has consistently raised the need for relocation due to aging buildings and lack of office space, to this location, establishing branches of the Career Education Center and the Education Training Institute, and building an 'Imagination Sharing Campus' for students' future education.
Additionally, benchmarking the Wisdom Forest in Paju, Gyeonggi-do, and the Wisdom Sea in Masan, Gyeongsangnam-do, the plan includes creating a tentative '(tentative name) Incheon Wisdom Forest,' where citizens can communicate while enjoying books.
Superintendent Do emphasized, "Dongincheon area, historically and traditionally the center of Incheon with deep roots and cherished memories of citizens, will be realized as a development model for revitalizing the original downtown through a virtuous cycle of education and economy," adding, "Through the creation of the Incheon Educational Complex, we will establish an educational and cultural belt connecting Dongincheon Station, Incheon Student Education and Culture Center, and the trail around Incheon Freedom Park."
