[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] The Gyeongsangnam-do Office of Education announced on the 16th the main contents of the ‘2022 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) Implementation Basic Plan’ to be held on Thursday, November 18 this year, citing data from the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation.
According to the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation, the ‘2022 CSAT’ will be reorganized so that the Korean language, mathematics, and vocational inquiry areas follow a ‘common subject + elective subject’ structure, and in the social and science inquiry areas, students can select up to two subjects regardless of the category.
In the Korean language and mathematics areas, according to the ‘common subject + elective subject’ structure, students must take the common subject and choose one elective subject per area. The elective subjects for the Korean language area are ‘Language and Media’ and ‘Speech and Writing,’ while the elective subjects for the mathematics area are ‘Probability and Statistics,’ ‘Calculus,’ and ‘Geometry.’
For the English area, out of a total of 45 questions, 17 are listening questions, and the test is conducted within 25 minutes. The inquiry area consists of social, science, and vocational inquiry areas. Among these, social and science inquiry areas can be freely chosen, but to take the vocational inquiry area, students must have completed at least 86 credits of the Industry Demand Customized and Specialized High School Specialized Subject II curriculum.
In the social and science inquiry areas, students can select up to two subjects from 17 social and science inquiry subjects, and in the vocational inquiry area, up to two subjects can be selected from six subjects. When selecting two subjects, students must take the specialized common subject ‘Successful Vocational Life.’ Additionally, in the second foreign language/Chinese characters area, students can choose one subject from nine subjects.
All examinees must take the Korean history area, and for the remaining areas, they can take all or some areas according to their choice.
The second foreign language/Chinese characters area will adopt absolute evaluation, and in the Korean history/inquiry area exams, answer sheets for Korean history and inquiry areas will be separated and provided separately to examinees.
The linkage rate between EBS CSAT textbooks and lectures and the CSAT questions will be reduced from the existing 70% to 50% based on the number of questions per area/subject. The linkage method will be changed to indirect linkage depending on the characteristics of the subject, and for the English area, all linked questions will be presented in an indirect linkage format.
The score report will indicate the test areas, types, and subject names, and standard scores, percentiles, and grades will be shown for each area/subject. However, for the English area, Korean history area, and second foreign language/Chinese characters area, only grades based on absolute evaluation will be shown.
The CSAT to be held on November 18 will have application form distribution, submission, and changes from August 19 to September 3, and scores will be notified on December 10.
The Gyeongnam Office of Education’s College Admission Information Center advised that since this year’s college admission process continues to focus on ‘early admission based on school records and regular admission based on CSAT,’ and the proportion of regular admissions is increasing, the importance of the CSAT is rising. Therefore, they recommend students prepare with focused selection according to their academic year and admission aspirations from the beginning of the school year.
