Ministry of Unification: "Korea-US Joint Exercises Should Not Become a Cause of Military Tension on the Korean Peninsula" (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 16th, the Ministry of Unification responded to a statement by Kim Yo-jong, Deputy Director of the Workers' Party of North Korea, opposing the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises, saying, "Under no circumstances should the exercises become a trigger for military tension on the Korean Peninsula."
When asked about Kim Yo-jong's statement, a Ministry of Unification official said, "We will make every effort until the end to ensure that this exercise supports the peace process on the Korean Peninsula."
The official added, "Our position remains unchanged that inter-Korean relations should improve early and denuclearization talks should resume as soon as possible," and regarding Kim Yo-jong's prediction of the termination of the inter-Korean military agreement, said, "Under no circumstances should efforts for dialogue and cooperation be stopped."
