Musical 'Les Mis?rables' 40th Anniversary... French Original Team Visiting Concert
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dong-hyun] The musical ‘Les Mis?rables’ is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a concert tour by the original French cast visiting Korea.
According to the production company Culture Box on the 16th, the musical 'Les Mis?rables' will perform for about a month starting April 30 at Kyung Hee University Peace Hall in Seoul, followed by a show on May 15 at KBS Hall in Busan. Similar to 2019, this performance will be held in a concert format featuring the musical numbers (songs).
Since its premiere in Paris, France in 1980, the musical ‘Les Mis?rables’ has become an unprecedented blockbuster, attracting over 70 million viewers worldwide across more than 44 countries over 40 years. In 2019, it was also held as a concert in Korea and Busan, selling out all shows.
A total of 24 French actors, including Laurent Ban in the role of Jean Valjean, along with a 30-piece Artel Philharmonic full orchestra and choir, will come to Korea to perform. Audiences can fully immerse themselves in the musical numbers resonating throughout the venue and experience the heightened charm of the production.
The living French legend Laurent Ban returns as Jean Valjean after four years, joined by well-known talented actors in Korea such as Roland Karl as Javert, Noemie Garcia as Fantine, Anne-Marine Suire as Cosette, Emilien Marion as Marius, Audrey Rousseau as Eponine, and Romain Fructuoso as Enjolras. Unlike the Cameron Mackintosh version, this performance offers a differentiated experience by newly reinterpreting the 1980 version.
A representative from Culture Box, the production company for this performance, stated, “As with the message of Les Mis?rables, we aim to convey sincere forgiveness and the yearning for freedom, and to provide comfort and hope during these difficult times. We hope both the audience and actors come together to share heartfelt moments in this meaningful performance.”
