All Jeonnam National Assembly Members Urge Passage of Kepco University Special Act in March National Assembly
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Members of the National Assembly from the Jeonnam region urged the enactment of the Korea Energy Engineering University (KEEU) Special Act in March.
On the 15th, ten National Assembly members from Jeonnam, including Kim Seung-nam, chairman of the Jeonnam Provincial Party of the Democratic Party of Korea, held a party-government consultation meeting with Jeonnam Province. Former party leader Lee Nak-yeon and Governor Kim Young-rok were present as they issued a joint statement urging the passage of the Korea Energy Engineering University Special Act during the March extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
In the statement, they emphasized, “Korea Energy Engineering University is a future-oriented research-centered university that cultivates convergent and creative talents. It is essential not only for regional development but also for South Korea to secure future new energy sovereignty and establish the world’s best energy valley.”
They continued, “For Korea Energy Engineering University to officially open in March 2022, the Korea Energy Engineering University Act must be passed at the Industry, Trade, and Energy Committee’s bill review on the 16th.”
In October last year, 51 lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties, led by Representative Shin Jeong-hoon, jointly proposed the “Korea Energy Engineering University Act,” but the bill has failed to pass the subcommittee of the standing committee for over five months.
Lawmakers from Jeonnam stated, “The establishment of Korea Energy Engineering University and the special act cannot be delayed any longer due to the national time constraints. It is necessary to move beyond unproductive debates and show cooperative and decisive action for the future of South Korea.”
