Gwangju City, Improvement of Aging Public Sports Facilities
Selected for 11 Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Contests, Securing 1.7 Billion KRW in National Funding
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 15th that it will carry out renovation projects for 11 aging public sports facilities this year to support citizen convenience.
Earlier, Gwangju secured a total of 1.7 billion KRW in national funds for 11 sites after 9 projects were selected in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's 2021 public sports facility renovation support contest last year, and an additional 2 sites were selected in February this year.
Accordingly, 642 million KRW will be invested in renovating the floor and swimming pool of Bitgoeul Senior Health Town Gymnasium, which was completed over 11 years ago, and 1.31 billion KRW will be invested in the Yeomju Indoor Swimming Pool, which was completed 27 years ago and requires urgent repairs based on a detailed safety inspection.
Additionally, the autonomous districts will invest 120 million KRW in repairing the ceiling of the Dong-gu National Sports Center parking lot, which was damaged by a typhoon, and 150 million KRW in repairing cracks and other areas based on a detailed safety inspection of the Buk-gu Usan Swimming Pool.
Gwangju plans to complete the renovation projects for the selected public sports facilities within this year to minimize inconvenience to users.
