'Flowers Bloomed from Earth'... Meet at Yongsan Craft Center
29 Executives and Members of the Korean Contemporary Ceramic Artists Association Participate... Showcasing Ceramic Artworks with the Theme of 'Spring'... Free Admission... Available for VR Viewing on the Craft Center Website
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Ceramic art, made using soil, a material easily found in daily life, has been a part of human life longer and more deeply than any other craft.
Korean ceramics, which reached their peak in the 12th century by developing a unique inlay technique, experienced a brief decline during the Japanese colonial period but have achieved remarkable development through modern ceramic artists who inherit tradition and demonstrate creativity.
Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) will hold a special exhibition titled "Flowers Bloomed from Soil" by the Korea Contemporary Ceramic Artists Association from March 16 to April 25.
The exhibition venue is the 4th-floor exhibition hall of Yongsan Craft Center (274 Itaewon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul), and it is also available for online (VR) viewing on the Yongsan Craft Center website.
The participating artists are 29 executives and members of the Korea Contemporary Ceramic Artists Association, presenting works themed around "Spring," such as Buncheong Bottle (Kim Si-man), Sunrise (Shin Mi-young), Earth Spirit (Koo Kwon-hwan), Hope Cup (Lim Heon-ja), and Flow of Line (Jo Shin-hyun). Admission is free.
During the exhibition period, docent programs will be held twice every Saturday and Sunday (1st session at 2 PM, 2nd session at 3 PM). Up to four people can apply through the Seoul public reservation site. On-site registration is also available.
Since its founding in 1978, the Korea Contemporary Ceramic Artists Association has been actively engaged in various activities to develop ceramic art in Korea for 35 years. It has held 19 regular member exhibitions, 13 special exhibitions, and 18 seminars.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "We are holding a special exhibition with the Korea Contemporary Ceramic Artists Association, a representative group of modern Korean ceramics. In spring, when all things come to life, we hope you visit Yongsan Craft Center to see the beautiful ceramic artworks blossomed from soil."
Yongsan Craft Center is located in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul (274 Itaewon-ro). It has three basement floors and four above-ground floors with a total floor area of 2,800㎡. It includes a craft shop (1st floor), ceramic and hanbok experience rooms (2nd floor), craft learning spaces and workshops (3rd floor), and exhibition halls (4th floor). It also offers craft lecture programs for citizens.
