Joint Commercialization Opportunity with KT and Ice Cream Edu
Funding Support and Startup Space Residency at Incheon Innovation Center
Recommendation Letter for Gyeonggi Innovation Center Support Program
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Competent smart home learning specialized companies will have the opportunity to introduce elementary education content and solution services to the market.
KT announced on the 15th that it will hold a contest for elementary education content and technology to revitalize the edutech-based smart home learning market. This contest is jointly hosted by KT, education company Icecream Edu, and Incheon Creative Economy Innovation Center, and supported by Gyeonggi Creative Economy Innovation Center.
The contest targets small and medium-sized enterprises and startups within seven years of establishment that possess content and related technologies in the elementary education field, which can be serviced on IPTV, Android pads (tablet PCs), and mobile platforms. Prospective entrepreneurs can also participate individually.
The organizers plan to select about four companies, awarding a total prize of 40 million KRW and providing joint commercialization opportunities with KT and Icecream Edu. The content and solutions discovered through the contest will be commercialized through KT’s media platform Olleh TV and Icecream Edu’s elementary and middle school smart home learning service ‘AI Home Run’.
Additionally, selected companies will receive approximately 100 million KRW in commercialization funding and eligibility for incubation company recommendation to move into startup spaces through Incheon Innovation Center’s Smart X Lab. They will also be given priority recommendation rights for K-Champ Collaboration at Gyeonggi Innovation Center, recommendation letters for participation in related institution support programs, and preferential recommendation rights for residency in the startup nurturing cluster S Valley located in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, which KT is currently building.
This contest was prepared to discover elementary education content and solutions from capable SMEs and help their commercialization and market entry based on synergy with KT and Icecream Edu. KT and Icecream Edu signed a business agreement last September to expand the edutech-based non-face-to-face education market and cooperate in the online education platform business.
Kim Hun-bae, Executive Director of KT Media Platform Business Division, said, “Due to COVID-19, homes have emerged as the central space for education and learning, increasing market interest in smart homeschooling integrated with various information and communication technologies (ICT). Through this contest, we will actively discover competitive smart home learning content and solutions and, based on KT’s platform capabilities, accelerate the era of future education without educational gaps or disparities together with developers and small but strong companies.”
