KT Launches 'Tajo' Shared Bicycles in Goyang City with 400 Units for Pilot Operation
KT·Omnisystem·Goyang City Joint Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] KT is partnering with Omni System to launch a shared bicycle service for the citizens of Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province.
On the 15th, KT announced that it will operate "Tajo," a shared bicycle service based on the Green Bike Sharing platform, which was prepared over six months after establishing a business cooperation with Omni System and Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province in October last year. Green Bike Sharing is KT's platform that provides shared services for personal mobility devices such as bicycles and kickboards.
KT is responsible for the Green Bike Sharing platform, smart locking devices, and wireless communication, while Omni System handles bicycle operations, the Tajo app, and service management. Goyang City is in charge of shared bicycle infrastructure and administrative support.
KT, together with Omni System, will initially deploy 400 shared bicycles at subway stations such as Juyeop Station, Jeongbalsan Station, and Madu Station, as well as in newly developed residential areas with inconvenient public transportation like Hyangdong-dong in Deogyang-gu and Siksaji District in Ilsandong-gu, providing a free pilot service until the 11th of next month.
Starting from the 12th of next month, 1,000 bicycles will be deployed and the service will switch to a paid model. The Tajo usage fee is 500 KRW per 20 minutes per ride, with an additional 200 KRW charged every 10 minutes thereafter. A monthly unlimited pass costs 10,000 KRW. To support citizens' use of green transportation, Goyang City will also provide bicycle usage coupons when users download and use the Tajo app.
Citizens who wish to use Tajo can conveniently rent bicycles by scanning the QR code attached to the bicycle with the Tajo app, and return them by manually closing the smart lock. Since there are no separate docking stations, users can use the bicycles throughout Goyang City according to their travel routes.
Meanwhile, KT and Omni System launched the Tajo service by deploying 1,000 shared bicycles in Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province in October last year, and have expanded the fleet to 3,000 bicycles in Suwon since March this year. KT plans to continuously expand the number of service areas and operational scale.
