"Withdrawal of Additional Designation for 3rd New Towns"... 6 out of 10 Citizens Say "Appropriate" [Realmeter]
'Appropriate' 57.9% vs 'Inappropriate' 34.0%
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Amid rising public outrage over the land speculation scandal involving employees of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), a public opinion poll revealed that about 6 out of 10 citizens consider the withdrawal of the additional designation of the 3rd phase new towns appropriate.
On the 15th, Realmeter conducted a survey on the appropriateness of the claim to withdraw the additional designation of the 3rd phase new towns such as Gwangmyeong and Siheung on the 12th, commissioned by YTN's 'The News'. The results showed that 57.9% responded "appropriate" (very appropriate 43.4%, somewhat appropriate 14.5%), which was higher than the 34.0% who responded "inappropriate" (not appropriate at all 18.3%, not very appropriate 15.7%). Those who answered "not sure" accounted for 8.1%.
By region, except for Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong, the majority of respondents in all other regions considered the withdrawal "appropriate." In Incheon and Gyeonggi (appropriate 65.2% vs. inappropriate 26.1%), Gwangju and Jeolla (63.8% vs. 30.9%), and Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (63.1% vs. 33.6%), the "appropriate" responses were in the 60% range, higher than the average.
In Seoul (56.8% vs. 36.1%) and Daegu and Gyeongbuk (54.1% vs. 35.6%), positive responses of "appropriate" were also the majority.
However, in Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong, unlike other regions, the negative response rate of "inappropriate" (48.9%) was higher than the "appropriate" response (37.4%), contrasting with other areas.
There was little difference by age group and ideological inclination.
In most age groups, the majority responded that the claim to withdraw the additional designation of the 3rd phase new towns was "appropriate." The order of "appropriate" responses was 30s (64.2%), 20s (60.9%), 40s (59.8%), 60s (58.8%), and 50s (56.6%).
By ideological inclination, "appropriate" responses were generally high as well. The order was centrists (66.0%), conservatives (58.1%), and progressives (52.4%).
