Seoul City to Train 120 Trainees as Local Regeneration Activists and Community Experts
New Community Capacity Building Education Established for Sustainable Urban Regeneration, Customized Outreach Programs Provided
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government is opening educational courses and recruiting participants for two main groups active in the managed residential environment improvement project aimed at revitalizing low-rise residential areas and communities: local regeneration activists and resident communities.
On the 15th, Seoul announced that to smoothly and effectively promote the managed residential environment improvement project, it will nurture local regeneration activists, who serve as a bridge between residents, experts, and administration, and strengthen their capabilities by recruiting trainees for a new local regeneration activist course and an advanced course focused on professional capacity enhancement until the 25th.
The new course participants will be selected through a first-round document screening and a second-round interview, and those finally selected on April 2 will be able to participate in the training. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion and be registered in the managed residential environment improvement project’s local regeneration activist talent pool, granting them priority selection as local regeneration activists upon request from autonomous districts.
The advanced course is designed for local regeneration activists currently active in the managed residential environment improvement project target areas. Those who have not completed related training within the past three years must complete this course to continue their activities.
To promote sustainable urban regeneration, Seoul has newly established and will operate capacity-building education this year for resident communities that practically lead the managed residential environment improvement project. The resident community capacity-building education aims to create a foundation for revitalizing low-rise residential areas, expand the base of urban regeneration, encourage active participation of residents, and foster consensus.
The recruitment targets are a total of 120 people, including executives and members of the managed residential environment improvement project resident community operation committees (39 groups) and resident councils (30 groups). The resident community capacity-building education consists of basic education and customized elective education, minimizing group sizes and providing tailored education by visiting villages wishing to participate at each project stage.
