Underground Wiring in Mapo-gu World Cupbuk-ro Area: In Front of Danginri Power Plant, Hapjeong~Sangsu Station, Sinchon~Daehung Station
Creating a Safe Walking Environment and Pleasant Residential Area through Utility Pole and Overhead Line Undergrounding
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) will begin full-scale undergrounding work for electric and communication lines along the World Cup Buk-ro section in Sangam-dong.
Undergrounding refers to the process of burying or relocating utility poles and various wires underground.
The undergrounding project on World Cup Buk-ro involves Korea Electric Power Corporation, KT, and five other communication companies (SK Broadband, SK Telecom, LG Uplus, D'Live, Sejong Telecom), covering approximately a 400m section from Sangam Elementary School to Humansea Apartment Complex 2.
The district plans to underground all 24 KEPCO poles, 4 communication poles, and overhead lines within the construction section.
This section is densely populated with shops and apartment complexes near Sangam Elementary School, so the removal of utility poles and overhead lines through this undergrounding project is expected to greatly contribute to creating a safe walking environment and a pleasant residential environment.
By the end of March, installation of above-ground equipment such as switches and transformers will be completed. Road excavation will be finished from April to May, followed by underground line work starting in June, which is expected to be completed by August.
Once it is confirmed that electric and communication services are smoothly provided to each building, the project will be completed by switching overhead lines and removing utility poles and communication poles by September.
A district official stated, “We will do our best to complete the construction as quickly as possible while minimizing inconvenience to shops and residents,” and asked for cooperation from nearby residents.
Additionally, this year, besides the World Cup Buk-ro area, undergrounding projects will also be promoted in three sections: in front of Dangin-ri Power Plant, from Hapjeong to Sangsu Station, and from Sinchon to Daehung Station.
The total length of these three sections, which will be fully implemented from the second half of this year, is 3,316 meters, with a total project cost of 18.4 billion KRW. Through this, about 164 jobs are expected to be created, along with the effect of revitalizing tourism by creating a pleasant urban environment.
