View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The practical negotiations for unification between Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party's candidate for Seoul mayor, and Ahn Cheol-soo, the People's Party's candidate for Seoul mayor, have not progressed, leading to the postponement of the jointly planned 'Vision Presentation.' The final candidate registration day is just four days away.
On the night of the 13th, Oh's campaign announced that the 'Seoul Mayor Candidate Vision Presentation' was scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. on the 14th in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. However, shortly after, Ahn's campaign announced that at the same time on that day, they would visit the Hyundai Apartments in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, to inspect aging apartment sites. The two campaigns announced different plans.
On the 14th, Ahn's campaign expressed dissatisfaction through a statement, saying, "The vision presentation schedule announced yesterday by Oh's side was a unilateral event that was not agreed upon with anyone in advance," and added, "Due to differing opinions emerging without full authority delegated to the practical negotiation teams, there are even claims that the practical negotiation teams are useless."
Ultimately, on the morning of the 14th, Oh and his practical negotiation team held an urgent closed-door meeting at the People Power Party headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to discuss the deadlocked unification negotiations. Immediately after the meeting, Oh told reporters that the vision presentation schedule would be postponed and that full authority would be delegated to the practical negotiation team.
Oh said, "I will delegate full authority to the practical negotiation team and hope that this will be the basic premise for the negotiations," adding, "Unification will definitely proceed within the promised deadline, and I express a firm determination to promptly resume negotiations this afternoon."
Subsequently, Ahn's campaign also announced, "Through a phone conversation between the two candidates today, it was decided to entrust further progress to the practical negotiation teams," and "Therefore, we inform you that today's vision presentation has been postponed."
