COVID-19 459 New Cases Yesterday... Maintaining 400s for Six Consecutive Days (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] On the 14th, the number of new COVID-19 cases recorded was in the mid-400s. Although it slightly decreased compared to the previous day, it has remained in the 400s for six consecutive days since the 9th (446 cases).
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on this day, there were 459 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 95,635. This is 31 fewer cases than the previous day (490 cases).
New cases, which had shown a gradual decline this year, surged to the 600s immediately after the Lunar New Year holiday. Since then, they dropped to the 300-400 range but have recently shown an increasing trend again.
The daily new cases over the past week (8th to 14th) were 346 → 446 → 470 → 465 → 488 → 490 → 459. Except for one day in the 300s, all days recorded cases in the 400s.
With an average of 452 cases per day over the week, the key indicator for adjusting social distancing levels, the daily average of locally transmitted cases, stands at 434. This already falls within the 2.5 level range (nationwide 400-500 or more cases).
Regarding the infection routes of the new cases on this day, 436 were locally transmitted and 23 were imported from overseas.
By region, the Seoul metropolitan area accounted for a total of 326 cases: Seoul 108, Gyeonggi 199, and Incheon 19, making up 74.8% of all locally transmitted cases.
Non-metropolitan areas reported a total of 110 cases: Gyeongnam 52, Gangwon 16, Busan 13, Gyeongbuk and Chungbuk 7 each, Jeonbuk 5, Daegu 4, Jeonnam 2, and Gwangju, Ulsan, Chungnam, and Jeju 1 each.
Major infection cases include sporadic transmissions at family and acquaintance gatherings, saunas, workplaces, and other locations.
In the case related to a bathhouse in Jinju City, Gyeongnam, the cumulative number of confirmed cases increased to 132 as of the afternoon of the previous day. Testing is still ongoing, so more cases may emerge.
Additionally, new infections continued at ▲ a logistics center in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi (cumulative 12 cases), ▲ a nursing home in Suji-gu, Yongin City (11 cases), ▲ a family and workplace cluster in Danwon-gu, Ansan City (11 cases), ▲ a metal manufacturing company in Hongseong County, Chungnam (9 cases), and ▲ a workplace in Gumi City, Gyeongbuk (6 cases).
There were 23 imported cases, 7 more than the previous day (16 cases).
Among the confirmed cases, 6 were identified during quarantine inspections at airports or ports. The remaining 17 tested positive while in self-quarantine at their residences or temporary living facilities in Seoul and Gyeonggi (4 each), Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Jeonbuk (2 each), and Incheon, Chungnam, and Gyeongnam (1 each).
They are estimated to have come from 12 countries, with 11 being Korean nationals and 12 foreigners.
By country, the United States accounted for the most cases with 6, followed by Pakistan with 3, the Philippines, Indonesia, Mongolia, and Ukraine with 2 each, and the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Hungary, Poland, and Spain with 1 each.
Combining locally transmitted and imported cases (excluding quarantine), the Seoul metropolitan area recorded 335 cases: Seoul 112, Gyeonggi 203, and Incheon 20. Nationwide, new cases were reported in 15 cities and provinces, excluding Daejeon and Sejong.

Meanwhile, the death toll increased by 2 from the previous day, reaching a cumulative total of 1,669. The average fatality rate stands at 1.75%.
