Seoul Gangseo-gu 'Visiting Marriage Registration Service for Persons with Disabilities'
On-site Registration for Disabled Residents in the Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is implementing a ‘Visiting Marriage Registration Service’ to assist people with disabilities who have difficulty with mobility in registering their marriages.
In most cases, people with severe disabilities submit their marriage registration forms with the help of others.
In particular, as of December last year, the number of registered disabled persons in Gangseo-gu was about 28,000, the highest among Seoul’s autonomous districts.
Accordingly, the district has prepared a ‘visiting submission service’ to eliminate difficulties faced by people with disabilities when registering their marriages and to provide convenience for civil complaints.
The service targets registered disabled persons who have their resident registration in Gangseo-gu and wish to register their marriage. Both parties in the marriage registration must be disabled, regardless of the degree of disability.
To apply, applicants must make a phone reservation for a visit date through the Civil Affairs and Passport Division of Gangseo-gu Office.
Afterwards, the responsible staff will visit on the scheduled date to verify identity and accept and process the marriage registration.
The marriage registration process takes about 4 to 7 days, and the result will be notified via text message upon completion.
An ID for identity verification is required during the visit, and the marriage registration form must have signatures or seals from both parties and at least two witnesses.
A district official said, “We wanted to help everyone share the happy moment of becoming legally married,” and added, “We will continue to think from the perspective of civil petitioners and improve any inconveniences.”
