[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) will provide approximately 45 billion KRW in disaster funds to member farms affected by avian influenza (AI).
The NACF announced that Chairman Lee Seonghee visited the Korean Poultry Cooperative Egg Distribution Center in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, on the 12th and held a handover ceremony to support disaster funds for about 180 member farms. These farms had to cull 16 million laying hens as AI spread nationwide.
A maximum of 1.2 billion KRW will be provided to a total of 49 livestock cooperative locations, including those in AI-affected areas. The funds will be used for quarantine supplies and compensation for losses related to military supply contracts. The NACF plans to finalize the support schedule and amounts by office and deliver the funds within this month.
Chairman Lee said, "We will continue to explore various support measures and spare no effort at the federation level to provide even a little help to livestock farmers."
